Lawn or meadow?

My grass is so long that wildlife is happily moving in. Keep in mind my "lawn" is more of a "yard" and by "yard" I mean "wee little patch of more weeds than grass" in the middle of town.  I went to move the dog fence so I can mow (with my new Neuton mower!) and look who gave me a disapproving stare.
